To Fly is the first painting I ever made that I consider a "real" painting. Its beginning came from personal experience and surf story. At Cardiff Reef santa ana winds were howling and blew little butterflies out to sea. We were surfing with them as they flew back to land. Then there is a story of a butterfly landing on Skip Frye's board. He catches a wave without paddling and carries the butterfly safely back to shore. I combined these in my painting. To Fly is one of the paintings I have held onto, it hangs in my parent's kitchen.
